Wife | Step-Mom | Marine Veteran | Mental Health Advocate | Biker
I’m a Marine Corps Veteran and was first introduced to Love Surrounds You Inc. during the 4th Annual Ride Out of the Darkness. At the time I didn’t know how much this movement would mean to me or how much it would help heal parts of my soul.
From childhood, I have watched my family members struggle with addiction. The hurt that I struggled with from that I would always say didn’t affect me, except to make me want to be better. Part of me knew I needed to do something of meaning with my life and there was part of me that wanted to prove myself to everyone. That lead me to the Marines. I loved my time there and it gave me that sense of purpose that I felt like I was missing my whole life. Unfortunately my time there was cut short because of injuries.
After that time of my life was over I missed that sense of serving for something bigger than myself and struggled to find who I was now. After my husband and I moved to Florida we went on a ride because we saw something happening at Sun N’ Fun in Lakeland. This event turned out to be the Ride Out of Darkness. In 2025 I was able to be an active volunteer participating in assisting getting things together for the 5th annual ride and that finally clicked something in place for me. It gave me that sense of purpose that I felt I was missing.
Not only has this given me a sense of purpose but it honestly has helped my personal mental health as well. I struggle everyday with depression but I do my best not to allow it to show. As a female in the military we always had unspoken higher standards that the men didn’t have. So suppressing those feelings is something that I have practiced, however, now is the time to show other female veterans that you are not alone in your struggles and we don’t have to hide our emotions away anymore. I will stand by your side and help you fight your demons no matter who you are. You are loved more than you realize and I want to help you feel that love.
