These roles ensure the Ride Out of the Darkness® event operates safely, smoothly, and in close coordination with law enforcement and escort teams. Route & Safety leaders manage vehicle flow, communication, staging, and emergency readiness from start to finish. All Route & Safety roles are 12-month commitments designed to support steady monthly planning and confident execution on event day. Time commitment varies by role.

  • ROLE TYPE
    Route & Safety Role — 12-Month Assignment

    ROLE PURPOSE
    Oversees all motorcycle staging, spacing, ride discipline, and communication to ensure a safe and organized ride experience.

    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
    • Coordinates motorcycle staging and release order
    • Reinforces ride spacing and safety expectations
    • Works with escorts and route leadership
    • Communicates ride instructions to bike leads
    • Supports smooth arrival and parking at rally site

    TIME COMMITMENT
    • 12-month commitment
    • Light planning early in the year
    • Increased involvement 1–2 months pre-event
    • Active role on event day

    SUPPORT & STRUCTURE
    • Works closely with Route & Safety Director
    • Supported by bike leads and law enforcement escorts

    Manages Jeep and Bronco vehicle groups from staging through route execution and rally arrival.

    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
    • Coordinates Jeep/Bronco staging and spacing
    • Communicates instructions to vehicle leads
    • Supports safe route flow and parking
    • Works with route communications and escorts

    TIME COMMITMENT
    • 12-month commitment
    • Moderate planning leading up to event
    • Active coordination on event day

    ROLE PURPOSE
    Supports overall ride safety by assisting with visibility, spacing awareness, and communication along the escorted route during the Ride Out of the Darkness® event.

    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
    • Assists Route & Safety leadership with on-route visibility and awareness
    • Helps monitor ride flow, spacing, and potential safety concerns
    • Communicates observations to Route Coordinators or Communications Lead
    • Supports calm, orderly movement of vehicles along the route
    • Follows all safety instructions and law-enforcement guidance

    TIME COMMITMENT
    • Event day only
    • Assigned to specific route segments or positions
    • Briefing required prior to ride start

    SUPPORT & STRUCTURE
    • Reports to Route, Safety & Law Enforcement Director
    • Works alongside Route Communications and vehicle coordinators

    ROLE PURPOSE
    Manages vehicle parking and staging at the starting location to ensure safe, organized flow before the ride begins.

    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
    • Directs vehicles into designated parking and staging areas
    • Helps maintain clear lanes and safe spacing
    • Assists participants with basic directional questions
    • Works with Parking Lead and Route Coordinators
    • Helps ensure a calm and organized starting environment

    TIME COMMITMENT

    • Early arrival required
    • Active during arrival and staging period

    ROLE PURPOSE
    Directs incoming vehicles at the rally site to ensure efficient parking, safe flow, and a positive arrival experience.

    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
    • Directs vehicles into assigned parking areas
    • Helps maintain orderly traffic flow at the rally site
    • Coordinates with vehicle-type leads and Parking Coordinators
    • Assists with accessibility and special vehicle needs when directed
    • Supports safe pedestrian and vehicle interaction

    TIME COMMITMENT
    • Event day only
    • Active during ride arrival window and peak rally hours

    SUPPORT & STRUCTURE
    • Reports to Rally Location Parking Lead
    • Works with Route, Safety, and Vehicle Coordinators
    • Clear signage and direction plans provided
